Meguri Support

Here are answers to frequently asked questions about using Meguri and how your data is handled.

Q. Where is my recorded data stored? Is it sent to the cloud?

All data is stored only on your device. The developer operates no server, and no account registration is required. Data leaves the device only when map-area coordinates are sent to the Overpass API to generate a line map for Print, or when a map area or search point is passed to Apple’s standard mapping or geocoding services for map display or place searches. Neither case includes personal information such as your name, photos, or notes. See the Privacy Policy for details.

Q. How do I transfer my data to a new device or make a backup?

You can export a JSON file from Settings. The export contains only recorded information such as spot locations, notes, Mood, GPS logs, and settings; it does not include the actual photo, video, or audio files. Importing the JSON on a new device restores the spot records, but displaying photos and videos requires transferring them through a photo-library backup such as iCloud Photos. Voice memos and ambient-sound recordings made in the App currently cannot be transferred to a new device. Please be aware of this limitation in advance.

Q. What happens to my data if I delete the App?

Deleting the App also deletes its recorded data. We recommend exporting a backup before deleting it. The JSON backup does not include the actual photo, video, or audio files (see the previous answer).

Q. Why does location access need to be set to “Always”?

This allows Photowalk to keep recording your route when the screen is closed. If you do not use Photowalk, you can use the App normally with “While Using the App” access.

Q. Why does generating a line map for Print use an internet connection?

The connection is used to retrieve map data from OpenStreetMap. Only the coordinates of the map area are sent; no personal information such as your name, photos, or notes is transmitted.

Q. Where can I report a bug or request a feature?

Please use the contact form. Including the steps to reproduce the issue and your iOS version will help with the investigation.

Q. Will the App become paid in the future?

The App is currently free as a beta version. Paid features may be introduced in the future, but advance notice will be provided.
