Meguri Privacy Policy
The iOS app “Meguri” (the “App”) records photos, places, and feelings entirely on your device. This Policy explains what information the App handles and how.
The App has no account registration or sign-in, and there is no server operated by the developer. The developer never receives your photos, location information, audio, or records, and the App uses no analytics tools, advertising SDKs, or tracking.
Spot records (location, notes, Mood), audio, GPS logs, albums, and Prints are stored only on your iPhone. Photos and videos are recorded as references to the originals in your photo library, and only display thumbnails are stored inside the App (a copy is stored only when the original cannot be referenced). Deleting the App removes records, thumbnails, and audio, but photos and videos in your photo library are unaffected. Backups are ZIP files you export yourself, and you choose and manage where they are saved. Each record can be deleted individually at any time, and there is no retention limit.
Location: Used to record spots, display maps, and run Photowalk (continuous route recording). During Photowalk the route is recorded even with the screen closed, so location is acquired in the background and the iOS indicator is shown. The QR code in Print and Camera (a link that opens Apple Maps) contains the coordinates or the place name of the shooting location. The code is generated on your device with no network communication, but if you publish or share an exported sheet or image, anyone who scans it can see that location.
Photo library: Used to attach photos to spots, save Prints, create and restore backups, and find photos automatically based on capture time. Reading and matching happen entirely on the device.
Camera: Used to take photos and videos on the spot in capture mode.
Microphone: Used to record voice memos and ambient sound.
Notifications and Lock Screen: The App uses only local notifications and Live Activities to show recording results and photowalk progress on your device. It does not use push notifications from an external server.
Each is confirmed through the iOS permission dialog when the corresponding feature is used, and the resulting data is stored only on your device.
The App communicates externally in only two cases.
Map display: Map tiles and label fonts are retrieved from OpenFreeMap (tiles.openfreemap.org). Only the tile coordinates for the map area currently shown, the font data request, and your device’s IP address are sent; photos, spots (pins), notes, and records are never sent. Retrieved tiles are cached on the device, so showing the same area again causes no communication. Map data is © OpenStreetMap contributors (ODbL 1.0), and rendering uses MapLibre.
Place search: To search place names and show addresses, the App passes the coordinates or place name of the search point to the standard iOS geocoding service (Apple). Apple’s privacy policy applies to this communication.
In both cases no personal information such as names, photos, or notes is included, and the developer neither receives nor stores this data. Line maps for Print are drawn on the device from routes you recorded yourself and administrative boundary data bundled with the App, so no communication occurs. The sources of that bundled data (the National Land Numerical Information by MLIT Japan, and Natural Earth) and the fact that it was processed by the developer are shown in the App under Settings > Licenses.
The App collects no personal information from any user, including children under 13.
Except in cases of willful misconduct or gross negligence by the developer, the developer is not liable for damages arising from use of the App. Changes to this Policy will be announced on this page, and material changes will also be noted in the App’s update information.
