Meguri Privacy Policy
The iOS app “Meguri” (the “App”) is a local-first app for recording photos, places, and feelings only on your device. This Policy explains the information handled by the App and how it is treated.
The App has no account registration or login, and the developer operates no server. The developer does not collect, track, or store users’ personal information, photos, location information, or audio. The App uses no analytics tools, advertising SDKs, or tracking. Some features communicate with external services to retrieve map data or search for places, as described below. The App does not collect personal information from any user, including children under the age of 13.
Spot records (location, notes, and Mood), photos and videos attached to spots (copies are kept inside the App), voice memos, GPS logs, albums, and Prints are stored only on your iPhone. Deleting the App also deletes this data. The backup feature exports a JSON file at your request; you choose and manage its destination, such as Files or iCloud Drive. Individual records can be deleted in the App at any time, and there is no retention limit. Storage and deletion remain under your control.
Location information is used to record spots, display maps, and run Photowalk (continuous route recording). While Photowalk is on, location is collected in the background so the route can continue to be recorded when the screen is closed, and the iOS indicator is shown. Location data is stored only on your device. Location information leaves the device only in the following three cases: (1) when map-area coordinates are sent to the Overpass API to create a line map for Print (see the next section); (2) when coordinates of a search point or a place name are passed to Apple’s standard geocoding service for place-name searches or address display; and (3) when the currently displayed map area is passed to Apple while the App uses Apple’s standard MapKit framework to display maps. None of these cases includes personal information such as names, photos, or notes, and the developer does not receive or store this data. Communications in (2) and (3) are governed by Apple’s privacy policy.
Only when generating a line map for Print, the App sends the coordinates of the selected map area to an Overpass API operated by the OpenStreetMap community (overpass-api.de, or, when unavailable, the overpass.kumi.systems mirror) to retrieve map data. Only the map area is sent; it does not include names, photos, notes, or other personal information. This communication occurs only when the line-map feature in Print is used.
Photo-library access is used to attach photos to spots, save completed Prints, and find photos taken at a location based on capture time. Reading and matching photo metadata is performed entirely on the device; neither photos nor matching results are transmitted. The microphone is used for voice memos and ambient-sound recordings. iOS asks for permission when these features are used, and resulting data is stored only on the device.
The App uses only local notifications on the device to confirm spot recording in Snap mode. It does not use push notifications from an external server.
Changes to this Policy will be announced on this page. Material changes will also be noted in the App’s update information.
